When Redhook Brewery introduced its first batch of Winterhook Ale in 1984, the Billboard Hot 100 read like a list of what would become karaoke’s greatest hits – Hall & Oates, Wham!, Billy Ocean, and Madonna were on top.

30 years and 30 recipes later, Redhook announces the release of Winterhook #30. Recipe development and brewing was overseen by Redhook Innovation Brewer Nick Crandall.

Like its predecessors, Winterhook #30 is dark and rich in color. Pale and Munich malts combine with dark chocolate malt to create bold flavor. The spicy aroma, subtle sweetness, and strong caramel flavor are courtesy of Cascade, Centennial, and Nugget hops while flaked rye concentrates the spice further still. The winter ale finishes warm and full.

“You might say Winterhook #30 is something of a ‘greatest hits’ of the previous 29,” said Redhook Innovation Brewer Nick Crandall. “We looked back over all the previous recipes, brought out some of our favorite ingredients and added a few new ones. It’s a well-balanced beer that’s great for the frosty nights and colder weather.”

Redhook will celebrate the milestone with an ugly sweater-themed 30th birthday party at Crystal Mountain Ski Resort, just outside Seattle. The party will be open to the public and will feature three specialty beers, a commemorative mug, prizes, and more. Details can be found on Redhook’s Facebook page at Facebook.com/RedhookAleBrewery.
