A beautiful Brazilian girl once told my best friend “don’t worry so much, handsome, you grow old”. He took her words to heart, and one day told me the story. In turn, I told another friend about it, and so on. The mantra seems to have touched so many different people over time, all beginning with a beautiful Brazilian woman whom we will probably never meet. The name, Jovem, Portuguese for “young” serves as a reminder to forget the small things and have fun instead, no matter your age. So as an homage to her, and her home country, I created a cocktail inspired by traditional South American and Brazilian ingredients. I prefer working with fresh ingredients whenever possible and I wanted to create a cocktail that was feminine and light, but also gave a dimension of different flavors.
